Cheney passed away earlier this month due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease.

Former President George W. Bush and former Rep. Liz Cheney will memorialize the late Vice President Dick Cheney in a funeral service at Washington National Cathedral on Nov. 20, according to a release.
Cheney, the deeply influential yet polarizing vice president who served for eight years as Bush’s powerhouse right-hand, acted almost as a shadow chief executive through the president’s two terms in office. He passed away earlier this month at 84 due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease.
“Dick was a calm and steady presence in the White House amid great national challenges,” Bush wrote of Cheney shortly after his death. “I counted on him for his honest, forthright counsel, and he never failed to give his best. He held to his convictions and prioritized the freedom and security of the American people.”
Despite his bullish reputation toward the left, Cheney was also known for supporting his daughter, then-Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) as she stood in stark opposition to Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, helming the House January 6 Committee as vice chair to investigate the riot at the U.S. Capitol in 2021.
“I watched my dad serve in the highest offices in our country for nearly 50 years,” she wrote of Cheney in her 2023 memoir “Oath and Honor.” “From him, I learned what it means to have the courage of your convictions.”
Jonathan Reiner — Cheney’s long-time physician and cardiologist — and Pete Williams — Cheney’s former press secretary and spokesperson during his career in Congress and at the Pentagon — will also deliver tributes at the service.
